King’s U13 Girls Shine at West Regional Finals
After securing their place in the West Regional U13 Girls’ Finals by finishing runners-up to Dean Close in the Tier 1 County Tournament, the King’s team headed to Clifton College to test themselves against the strongest sides in the region.
The team faced six pool matches, each presenting a formidable challenge. In their opening game against Hereford Cathedral School, the girls started tentatively but found their rhythm, securing a 2-2 draw. Their second match against All Hallows School ended in a 2-0 defeat, leaving the team disappointed as they felt they had dominated play. However, they bounced back in style with an excellent 3-1 victory over Kingswood School, which provided a huge confidence boost.
This momentum carried them forward as they defeated Truro School 2-0, earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Exeter School, and closed the pool stage in spectacular fashion with a 5-0 win over Dumpton School. These results secured King’s a place in the semi-finals, where they faced Pool B winners and familiar rivals, Dean Close.
The semi-final was a nail-biter, with a spot in the final on the line. King’s took an early lead through a goalmouth scramble following a penalty corner. Both teams created numerous chances, but resolute defending from the King’s girls kept Dean Close at bay. With determination and grit, King’s held on until the final whistle, earning their place in the final against Millfield School.
In the final, Millfield scored early, putting King’s on the back foot. Despite their best efforts, King’s couldn’t recover as Millfield’s quality shone through, leading to a 5-0 victory for the deserving champions. We wish Millfield the best of luck in the National Finals.
The King’s U13 Girls were outstanding throughout the tournament, showing incredible promise and determination. Their performance highlights an exciting future for this talented group of players.
